Robin Kaleta

Aren’t you familiar with the expressions free riding or base jumping?

Short explanation would be that these are adrenaline sports focused on extreme skiing in free, untreated terrain, and free jumps off the various high objects, rocks or mountains. If this short interpretation is not good enough and you would like to know more about it, then let yourselves to be pulled into the secrets of these breath-taking sports. Professional free-rider, base jumper, ski base jumper, and multi-sport enthusiast Robin Kaleta will come to the festival Horyzonty to share his experience and skills.

Robin has already begun with skiing activities when he was three years old, and we might say that he practically “grew up” on the ski runs. Then he started with free-riding when he was attending university, and since 2003 his name has been showing up on competition lists. Also, Robin is regularly occupying winning steps.

He has ran down almost all the mountains on the skies, but his favorite ones is the district Beskydy where he comes from, and where he tried free-riding for the first time.

Among his further “best areas” belongs Skalnaté pleso, Chopok, Vrátna, Swiss Alps, and mainly skiing centers full of rocks and various terrain undulations where he can completely satisfy his needs.

Skiing is not just his hobby but job too. This can be proved by his performance and positioning at world competitions. Participating in Free-ride World Qualifier in Italy Robin earned second place, in 2006 in New Zealand he rode in the competition Free-ski Open and finished fifth, and regularly occupies winning steps at the traditional free-ride competition Jasna-adrenaline, Chopok, Slovakia.

So we can say that except for summer time, when he devotes his time to climbing, biking, and mainly base jumping, Robin excludes the entire months for white snowy mountains. Parts of his summer training are yoga and running.

In the future he intends to dedicate his time to ski base jumping and improve his skills in this sport, which is a combination of free-riding and sky diving. So let us to be surprised what he can do in this sport area.

Also, it is worth to mention his reports from journeys, his photographs and/or movies based on which it is hard to believe that in the past Robin Kaleta dedicated his free time to ballroom dancing. He exchanged dance floor mastership for skies and, nowadays, he belongs to a group of the best free-riders. It is proved by the video shot in which he and Tomáš Kraus skied down Lomnický štít in the High Tatras in winter time as well as in summer time.

We hope that meeting our next festival guest will be valuable not only for skiers but non-skiers, sport enthusiasts and extreme sport fans.
